John's second, but our first together! hehe We went looking for quartz & crystal!
it was close to our place and we met up with the Rock Club members and followed them to the FUN!
As we got there, the first place we dug and hunted was right next to where we could park.
Here's John having some FUN!!
i was soo surprised at how abundant it still was! Then the president of the club explained that while other rock hunters use the same areas, they aren't always looking for the same stuff.
Say the last group that might have been there was looking for gold, they would dig up some really GREAT quartz pieces and toss it aside, cause it wasn't what they were looking for, so alot of the quartz could be surfaced (and WAS!). Oh it was such a BLAST! :) i LOVE it!!
Here are some of the samples we brought home:
some nice sized pieces
some with many fine points that we had to surface ourselves.
some little beauties
some black glitter
some covered with black flecks
some with many clear & little points
the president of the club found and gave this one to us:
and ALOT of these where the crystals were inside rocks!!
Cool, huh? i am sure if you did a little research, you might be surprised what is in YOUR areas!
it is AMAZING what Mother Earth offers for FREE!
And luckily, we recently came across this box for the small & tumbled or polished ones (like our turquoise and topaz)
And this one for the bigger stones and rocks.
but some of those with fine, tiny points, we have to safeguard from breaking off so some of the drawers will be lined with paper towel or even fabric to nest the cool & fragile ones. :)
i can hardly wait to go to Opal hill next month now! hehe
It even got a little warm today, even though we were only there about 2 hours. What fun it really was! i sure hope you enjoyed this little tour! hehe i certainly enjoyed sharing it with you! Thank you so very much for visiting! HUGS! Have a SUPER evening! :)

It looks like you had a really great time and found some great rocks! You would have loved my grandfather's rock collection! He had lots of everything. Crystals, rose quarts and others!
You found a lot of crystals!
I am thinking I remember a type of quartz that they call a rose? Not rose quartz, but the crystals themselves form a rosette -- they are very delicate...looks similar to what the rock club leader gave you...
We have carnelian here, I am told, but I don't know how to recognize it unless it has been polished already...
Oh how much fun you must have had!!! Montana has the gold, so they say... we have so many rocks on our property, and sometimes we find some pretty cool ones.
What a great collection!!!
Have a great wekend!
eila
Looks like fun. You found some really pretty ones. Great new storage pieces for them. laurie
XASHEE,
WHAT FUN YOU MUST HAVE HAD. IT IS HARD WORK BUT SO REWARDING WHEN YOU FINE SOMETHING NEAT.
I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT I JUST LOVE ROCKS...I PROBABLY GOT IT FROM MY MOTHER AND MY GRANDMOTHER...DADDY'S MOTHER. I HAVE TWO BOOKENDS THAT ARE MADE FROM JADE. IT IS AMAZING WHEN YOU SEE A ROCK IN THE NATURAL STATE YOU WOULD NEVER DREAM IT WOULD TURN INTO SOMETHING SO BEAUTIFUL.
WE LIVE CLOSE TO WHAT IS CALLED THE GREAT SALT PLAINS...I DON'T KNOW IF I TOLD YOU THAT. PEOPLE USE TO COME FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD TO DIG FOR CRYSTALS THERE........YOU LOOK OUT AND IT LOOKS LIKE ACRES OF SNOW. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO DIG THERE FOR YEARS AND YEARS.........BUT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO SOMEONE DIGGING DUG UP SOME OLD MILITARY WEAPONS......THEY CLOSED IT DOWN.
ALSO MIGRATORY BIRDS STOP THERE SO BIRD WATCHERS TOOK TOURS THERE.......BUT BY THE TIME YOU WERE THROUGH DIGGING YOUR CLOTHES FROM THE SALT WOULD BE LIKE STARCH AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO TAKE YOUR OWN WATER TO FILL THE HOLES SO AS NOT TO BREAK YOUR CRYSTALS AS YOU DIG.
HUGS
