HI! i thought i would blog about our weather lately. It's been crazy with winds!!
Friday we had high winds with gusts up to 90 mph!! Saturday and Sunday were not too bad, nice & sunny, light breezes. But Monday, Tuesday and today have been crazy winds again!!
Nothing like Friday, thank goodness but still we could use a break! Last night,
the power kept threatening to go out yet again, ALL night long! it would flick the lights but they, lucky for us, stayed on!!
Hopefully they will settle down for a FEW days! i don't think Chicago (the WINDY city) was THIS bad! :) Seriously, this desert living can truly be harsh!
That's really the worse we put up with besides the heat, earthquakes, mudslides, wildfires, & Marines bombings out back, i mean! LOL
Sunday, we should have been in town a bit more and we might have run into Martha Stewart !!!
YEP, she stopped in to shop one of our antique stores! The store owner told her (not realizing who she was) that she doesn't open til 10. Martha was quiet for awhile and then simply said "I'm Martha" ! lol The woman said though she doesn't have a tv, that she enjoyed Martha's magazines and opened up 40 minutes EARLY!! LOL
She bought a pottery chicken waterer for her chickens, i am sure among other things since they shopped for about an hour! The local newspaper also reported that this may air in the fall since she had a camera crew with her. Cool, huh? :)
Martha had been staying in Palm Springs and went to a Palm Sunday sunrise thing at the Joshua Tree National Park that morning. She was reported as saying that this particular shop was her "favorite antique store"!! :)
i understand quite a few stars come in and visit this area. i have heard that Robert Plant (from original Led Zepplin band) sings locally quite often! and DH's boss owns a coffee cafe type place downtown and has stars come entertain there all the time! DH and i always say we should go, it really sounds like a good time but sometimes just the trip down the mountain is enough GOING, i think we dread the thought of coming home tired and driving that mountain. :) must be getting old!! i heard someone say, out there! hehe :)
When we first moved here, DH was downtown getting groceries, after work and ran into Dick Dale and his son! He was so excited when he got home, his face was all lit up! :)
Heck, stars can be ANYWHERE near you too! when we lived near Chicago, both my sons were living with us, cause my older boy had just gotten out of the service. long story short, they walked to a local hamburger stand and came home all giddy about the girl they thought was Britney Spears! :) it can be FUN spotting them but so far, we haven't gone out of our way to do so!
How about you? have you ever met a celebrity? who was it!? i would LOVE to hear your stories!
:) Thank you so very much for visiting, HUGS!! Have an AWESOME evening! :)

Argh, Shirley, all we had here in Midland were the Bushes...so far as "famous folks" go...
I know what you mean about the WINDS! We have had wind storms here too, but only up to 60 mph this last bout. But it picks up trampoline and knocks fences down and such...visibility goes to zero with the blowing dust and all the streetlights come on!!!
Hang onto something good and SOLID (like a concrete bunny!) and don't blow away out there!
Fun post today - except the part about the winds... we have good ones here - they take down 100 foot trees by the roots...NOT FUN!
Stars... Beau Bridges, Wally Shaw, (Princess Bride - "inconceivable"), and Donald Moffat have all popped into a litte cafe I used to work at in Carlisle, PA. Ed Asner is a cousin of a former boss of mine in KC. He was from there. I actually knew both of his brothers pretty well. But my very favorite brush with greatness - Peter Fonda and John Paul DaJoria (Paul Mitchell Products) stopped into the lodge in Cooke City where I worked - on the way to Sturgis (on their Indians) We were slammed, and they were a group of 15 - with seperate checks. John Paul asked me to take his order first because he said he would tip me well. I said "Yeah - I have heard that before... I was a bit of a Flo from mel's diner kind of server (witty). Anyway, he wanted some blue cheese dressing for his buffalo burger... I brought crumbles - as he started to put ketchup on his bun, I stopped him and said I had something MUCH better for it (57 sauce and BC crumbles ate awesome togehter... ) He looked at me kind off wierd, and I deleivered a classic line "Hey, you know hair - I KNOW food). He loved his burger and gave me a $25 tip on a $50 check... worked for me. A few years later, Peter Fonda was coming back through Cooke City on his way home from Sturgis. He lives in Livingston, which is not far from there. We were sitting in the local tavern. This guy walks in to tell Rick (the owner) that the pay phone was broken. He was looking for some Patrone Tequila (which is top shelf - and Cooke City is not, shall we say... ) all Rick said was "are you who I think you are?" to which he said "Yep", and left... We don't make too big of a deal over movie stars... but it is fun sometimes to come across them.
Sorry for such a long response, but you asked... ;o)
Have a great day!
hugs!

LOL, Loved reading your post this mornig. We too have had the terrible winds and Mike is really quite disgusted with them! Cant do anything outside when they whip up this bad. This morning - breezy, no gusts-amen!
As for stars...hummm, I remember meeting some, but dont remember which ones, I do remember Lou Farrigno (bodyBuilder-Hulk) from our Car Shows and Jay Lenno...oh well, like ya said gettin older...
and everything seems to be like a chore - especially driving in the desert at night! Gotta run, goin into town today :) Hugs!~
Good Morning Shirley:)
I finally got back to catch up on your blog.:) Wow..that wind sounds rough!! Talk about a "bad hair day".LOL
I can't think of any celebrities I have personally met.My oldest son met three wrestlers while working at the local Chuck E.Cheese.:)He met Chipper Jones(the baaseball player) but Chipper was surrounded by autograph hounds and had to leave right away. That has to be a really rough life.Wanting to take your kid to a cool place to eat and get bombarded to the point of having to leave.:( We live just north of Atlanta ..so we get a few limo's etc and we always wonder who's in them.:)We have a place called Cowboy's and the country singers come to perform there.I have never been there...and it's right in town. But then..I am not a party girl.hehe
I love your dolphins! The wind chimes..my Mom would love. She has a collection of them.:)Your blouse is really cool too!! Great bargains!:)
Have a blessed Easter and a lovely weekend!
Hugs,
Valinda
I am not particularly fond of wind myself. It's been so gusty here. I live in the desert, and so there isn't alot of grass to hold the sand down. We walk outside on a windy day and get an eye full of dirt. General rule of thumb for March and April windy weather in New Mexico, DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WEARING A SKIRT! ;)
Hugs,
Rachel
Wow! Don't get blown away! By the winds or by celebs! Love the M.S. story. So typical of her to expect the store to open early without even trying to get in touch with the owner ahead of time! That is funny that the owner didn't recognize her. It's so fun to know what celebs buy. Thanks for sharing. laurie
