This weekend DirecTV offered free HBO & cinemax and we were lucky enough to catch something called "We Are One, the Obama Inaugural Celebration"! Did you happen to see it, too? i have to admit it was really good! so many celebrities came out and either sang or spoke. And to be totally honest, there was an opera singer, Ms Fleming, and she sang BEAUTIFULLY!! so i guess i am maturing to opera! hehe She sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" the song i think of as being done by Jerry Lewis from the MS Telethons. i remember watching those marathons and trying with all my might, to stay up with Jerry and hearing my mom holler down the hall for me to turn off the tv and get to bed! oh and i would pine away with how Jerry is still going, "can't i stay up"? hehe And he always got to me when he belted out that tune!!! oh the MEMORIES! hehe
Are you excited about our new President or do you hate to see the old one go? i would LOVE to hear your opinions! :D

even from Canada Obama-mania has hit. This is such a historic moment and we are eagerly watching all the going-ons.
Thanks for sharing, Shirley! I hope you are having a wonderful day. congrats on your awards, its nice to see you being rewarded for your blog! Its always a treat to come visit you.
Love, Barb
Hopeful - that is the word I would use to describe my feelings. They say our best presidents came out of very hard times (in our nation's history). Will I miss W? No - not so much. I miss what little innocence the US had left, pre Sept 11, 2001. OK OK, so Bill Clinton stepped on that a bit too.
We have come far in this country, in terms of race - let us hope this will help the unity of all people.]
Boy, do I sound sappy or what! Did not see the HBO secial (we use Dish - Direct TV won't give us our local networks, and when you live in the middle of nowhere, there are no other options... so it is LA and New York news, and basically, that is unacceptable.
Have a great one,
eila
Just found out your name from barb´s comment, Shirley!
Even in Paraguay we see nothing but news about the inauguration...
Hope it all goes well and that he will be a good president!
Sorry for the length.
I live in Midland, and "W" as he's called is our hometown boy. Everywhere you go, people have W on their cars, hats, jackets, etc. They love him here, to the skies, and Laura is a native of Midland. He is coming here tomorrow for his farewell/welcome home party, and the city is in a complete fever about it.
I find Midland's devotion to him touching, and I'm glad he chose us for his party, but he could have done SO MUCH for our city, and he didn't. We desperately needed to get the Presidential Library. We are a sector economy here and when oil goes bust, the town hurts bad. The Library could have given us so much. It would have turned our whole town around and we could have then gone from a community college to a real one. These kids here have NO IDEA what is offered at universities. Education is a LAUGH in this town.
On a personal level, I was disapponted that the First Lady didn't use her position for good. She could have chosen a variety of "causes" to support -- and didn't. There's a crying need for attention to ALCOHOLISM (W was notorious here for going to Pinkies on credit (the liquor store) & her kids were underage drinkers, for the CAREGIVERS (her own mom is in the nursing home with dementia, they keep that quiet), for the need for DRIVERS ED for teens (Laura hit and killed a classmate in high school due to poor driving skills) -- it just upset me to see so little embraced.
Barack Obama grew on me. I think he's just a politician in many ways, BUT I do think he is brilliant and will GROW now and lead REAL CHANGE.
It's very exciting times!! Hope all is going great for you this week!!
Have a super Monday!!!
